It is associated with the electrical impulses generated within the heart that cause the heart to beat. If due to any damage in the impulse generating machinery of the heart, then it can damage the functioning of heart. Pericarditis: The heart is surrounded by a protective covering called the Pericardium. Any damage to this membrane could prove to be life threatening. Any swelling to this membrane can lead to the medical condition called Pericarditis. Pericarditis could be one of the possible causes of chest pain as well as breathlessness.
